Thunderjaw is a hostile Enemy machine in Horizon Zero Dawn that the players can confront to obtain Experience and Loot.  It can also be found in normal, corrupted and daemonic variations.

Thunderjaw Description

  • The Thunderjaw is a huge bipedal machine with features akin to those of a Tyrannosaurus Rex: powerful and bulky legs, a long body, and a heavy tail to maintain equilibrium.
  • Its body features symmetrical weaponry: a laser weapon in its mouth, cannons on its jaws, a radar array on its back, and Disc Launchers on its hips.

Thunderjaw Combat Information

  • Behavior Info: Thunderjaws are often found by themselves and don't stray too far from their designated paths. Once engaged, Thunderjaws are extremely violent and won't hesitate to deploy all of their available weaponry to take down the perceived threat.
  • Thunderjaws' radar can detect Aloy even if she is standing still in long grass.
  • Weakness: None.
    • While facing a Thunderjaw, it is important to make destroying the Disc Launchers a priority. First because it will disable many ranged and dangerous attacks and also, because Aloy can pick it up and use it to fight against the machine, dealing an enormous amount of damage and turning the battle into a significantly easier one. Tearblast Arrows are a great pick to attempt to remove Disc Launchers
  • Resistance: shock-iconShock.

Thunderjaw Attacks

    • Bite Attack: The Thunderjaw snaps the enemy with its powerful mandibles. Deals 250 damage.

    • Tail Swipe: Uses its tail horizontally to knock the enemy down. Deals 300 damage.
  • Ranged Attacks:
    • Disc Launcher - 360 Attack: The Thunderjaw uses its Disc Launcher in a circle around itself dealing 130 damage per hit.
    • Disc Launcher - Barrage: The Thunderjaw fires a barrage of discs from its Disc Launcher each dealing 130 damage.
    • Disc Launcher - Homing: The Thunderjaw fires a homing disc from its Disc Launcher that tracks the target. It deals 130 damage.
    • Laser Sweep: The Thunderjaw fires a fan-shaped spread of laser beams. It deals 200 damage.

    • Cannon Burst - Side to Side: Rapid-fire mandibular cannon shots; cannons repeatedly fire left and right. Each projectile deals 60 damage.

Thunderjaw Location

  •  A pair of Thunderjaws can be found together protecting a herd of Lancehorns in the Glarebreak, west of Free Heap.
  • The daemonic variation of the Thunderjaw are located in the Banuk Region known as The Cut, which is exclusive to the DLC The Frozen Wilds, and is not available in the base version of Horizon Zero Dawn.

On normal difficulty, HZO, the thunderjaw survives 11 blast tripcaster wires, each one dealing 625damage, and 3 135 precision arrows to the face, but died to the next. This means the thunderjaw has between 7,281-7,415 HP, on PC.

Redmaw has 8000 hp. Shoot power cell with shock arrows, then use tearblast charge/arrow to knock off the disk launcher and expose the heart. Then kill it

        • Anonymous

Lay down 15 shadow trip caster ropes in the same spot, lure it over with the lure skill, it walks into them and its dead

If u make a bow that has amazing tear coils on all 3 slots then upgrade to hold 3 arrows boom component removed

            • Anonymous

Lol tearblast, freeze and rolling i frames are all you need if you dont want to expose yourself getting its disc launcher you can roll through its charges which is really all it has thats dangerous if you knock off its ranged attacks

              • Anonymous

It's intimidating, but that is all there is to it. A well plan strategy and all payload from the disc launcher are all it takes.
